From November 6th to 9th, guided by the BRICS Business Council Chinese Council, the Belt and Road and BRICS Skills Development International Alliance, and the Belt and Road and BRICS Skills Development and Technological Innovation Training Center, and with support from entities including the BRICS Business Council Chinese Working Group on Skills Development, Applied Technology, and Innovation, our institute successfully hosted the 2nd Vocational Skills Competition in Biological Products Testing Technology under the Belt and Road and BRICS Skills Development and Technological Innovation Competition. This competition attracted 68 teams from 35 higher vocational colleges across various provinces and cities in China.

The opening ceremony was held on the afternoon of November 6th. Liu Zhenying, Chairman of the Executive Committee of the BRICS Skills Development and Technological Innovation Competition Organizing Committee, delivered a video speech. Zhang Hongxiang, Secretary-General of the Chinese Society of Biotechnology and Executive Vice Chairman and Secretary-General of the National Biotechnology Teaching Steering Committee, along with Lin Feng, Member of the institute's Party Committee and Vice President, attended the event and delivered speeches. Contestant representative Zhai Yanbin, a student from our institute, and the chief judge of the competition, Lü Yinghui, Dean of the School of Bioengineering at Shandong Vocational College, took oaths on behalf of the contestants and judges, respectively. The distinguished guests jointly activated the opening ceremony by pressing their handprints, officially declaring the competition open.

The competition design was closely connected to the actual needs of the biological industry, comprehensively covering the core competency modules for biological products testing. It consisted of three main modules: "Basic Theoretical Knowledge of Biotechnology," "Virtual Simulation of Biosafety Laboratory Operations," and "Genomic DNA Extraction from E. coli and Fluorescent Quantitative PCR Testing." The practical operation segment fully simulated the real workflow of food and drug testing enterprises, encompassing the entire process from culture medium preparation and microbial inoculation to bacterial DNA extraction, fluorescent quantitative PCR testing, and data analysis report writing, highlighting its practical and comprehensive nature. The contestants demonstrated the caliber of skilled talents in the new era through their solid biotechnology testing skills.

The institute attached great importance to the event, making overall deployments to ensure its smooth progress. Back in September 2025, during the National Biotechnology Specialty Construction Seminar hosted by the institute, in-depth interpretations and extensive exchanges were specifically conducted regarding this competition, laying a solid foundation for the preparatory work in advance. The College of Food and Health took the lead in forming a professional team, meticulously planning the venue layout, and refining process management. Over a hundred faculty members and students participated in event services and support, ensuring seamless coordination and effective support across all segments. The competition utilized the National-Level Comprehensive Biotechnology and Food Technology Training Base and a CMA-accredited Food Testing Center to set up the venues, which were equipped with over 200 units/sets of various testing equipment, fully meeting the technical requirements of the event.

The closing ceremony was held on the morning of November 9th. Chen Hongjie, Deputy Secretary-General of the National Biotechnology Teaching Steering Committee and Arbitration Chair of the competition, and the institute's Vice President Lin Feng attended and addressed the ceremony. Attending leaders and guests presented awards to the winning students, teachers, and institutions. Professor Lü Yinghui, the chief judge, provided commentary on the competition. Our institute achieved outstanding results: two teams won gold medals, two teachers were awarded the title of Excellent Instructor, and the institute received the Best Organization Award and the Outstanding Contribution Award.

Taking this competition as a new starting point, our institute will closely follow the cutting-edge trends in the biomedicine industry, further deepen the educational mechanism of "using competitions to promote teaching, learning, and development," deeply integrate competition standards and advanced technical requirements into daily teaching, continuously optimize the curriculum system and practical training projects, and strive to cultivate more high-quality technical and skilled talents that meet the needs of regional economic development.
