From September 23 to 26, the School of International Education successfully completed the registration process for the 2024 cohort of international students. Fifty-three students from Russia, Thailand, and Vietnam gathered at the campus, embarking on a vibrant academic journey in ZJIET.

Streamlined Services, Efficient Registration

Working in coordination with the Student Affairs Office, the Logistics and Asset Management Office, the Security Department, and the Library and Information Center, the School of International Education devised a comprehensive plan for welcoming the new students. Prior to their arrival, preparations included upgrading dormitory facilities, integrating student information networks, and compiling and disseminating the registration guides.

During the registration period, several service stations were set up to assist with passport input, information verification, telephone card activation, bank card issuance, and air conditioner rentals. These measures ensured a smooth registration process and facilitated new students' adaptation to campus life.

Each international freshman received a specially prepared Welcome Package, which included study supplies, a creative gift bag, and bilingual versions of the Guide to Life at ZJIET and a compilation of regulations for international students. This information covered school culture, management regulations, academic requirements, campus facilities, transportation, and living services, encouraging the new students to quickly adapt and integrate into the university community while adhering to school rules.

Cross-Cultural Support and Community Integration

The school selected a group of student volunteers proficient in English and skilled in cross-cultural communication to provide targeted support for the newcomers. Utilizing a many-to-many mentoring approach, these volunteers offered guidance through shared experiences and cultural exchanges, fostering an open, inclusive, and harmonious campus environment.

During the freshman orientation week, the school conducted a series of introductory activities focusing on safety and discipline, helping the new students familiarize themselves with the campus and enhancing their awareness of safety and disciplinary norms. On September 27, a welcome meeting for the 2024 international freshmen was held, attended by all faculty members of the School of International Education and the International Communication and Cooperation Center. Through face-to-face interactions, teaching arrangement discussions, and explanations of school rules and regulations, the event aimed to assist international freshmen in adapting to the academic environment, setting learning goals, adopting positive study attitudes, and aspiring to become ambassadors of Sino-foreign exchanges.

Following the meeting, two officers from the Qiantang District Immigration Management Brigade were invited to deliver a special lecture on laws affecting international students. They provided comprehensive guidance on immigration policies and telecom fraud prevention, encouraging the newcomers to understand and abide by the law, and to develop a strong sense of legal and safety awareness.

Placement Tests and Future Plans

On September 29, all new students took a Chinese proficiency placement test. The school will use the results for class placements and tailored instruction based on varying levels of language proficiency.

Moving forward, the school will not only focus on the regular teaching of international students but also organize a series of themed activities centered on national conditions education and safety education. These efforts aim to cultivate international students into witnesses, participants, and disseminators of the university's and China's stories, thereby advancing the high-quality development of the school's international education initiatives.
