From November 22 to November 25, the Asian Games Cultural Exchange Camp for Zhejiang-Taiwan Collegiate Students was successfully held in Hangzhou. The camp was sponsored by the Zhejiang Province Taiwan Affairs Office, Department of Education and the Zhejiang Province Committee of Taiwan Community. Honorary guests were invited to the event, including Zhou Chaoli, Deputy Director of the Zhejiang Province Taiwan Affairs Office; Tao Jun and Lin Ping, Deputy Chairs of Zhejiang Taiwan Community; Lao Ciming, Secretary of the CPC ZJIET Committee; and Jiang Jun, deputy director of the Office of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs of the Provincial Department of Education.
More than 30 teachers and students from Taiwan Chien Hsin University of Science and Technology, Da-yeh University, Feng Chia University, 50 or more students from Taiwan studying in 9 universities in Zhejiang and their teachers participated in the event. The universities involved were Zhejiang University of Technology, Zhejiang Normal University, Zhejiang Sci-Tech University, Hangzhou Dianzi University, Zhejiang Gongshang University, Zhejiang University of Finance and Economics, Communication University of Zhejiang, Hangzhou Normal University and Zhejiang Ocean University. Over 20 Xiaoqinghe volunteers of the Hangzhou Asian Games from ZJIET participated as student representatives from China mainland, spending a wonderful time with the young people from Taiwan.
Lao Ciming spoke on the opening ceremony of the event. He pointed out that ZJIET had been adhering to serving the Party and the country, earnestly implementing the central and provincial government's major policies and arrangement on Taiwan affairs. Footing on reality and giving full play to its advantages, the school constantly held exchange activities with Taiwan, covering such fields as teacher and student visits, training of innovative talents, development of teaching materials, and construction of teaching teams. More than 200 teachers and students from both sides have participated in various exchange and training programs. It is the virtual action of the school in facilitating the Cross-Strait cultural exchanges with high quality and efficiency. He hoped that by holding such exchange activities, students from both sides of the Straits could deepen understanding, share happiness and enhance friendship.
Zhou Chaoli made a concluding speech at the camp closing ceremony. He briefly introduced the process of organizing and implementing the Dream Seeking in Zhejiang series of activities and its achievement. The series of activities held annually is themed with Encountering to have the young people from both sides hold hands in exploring the landscape, the history and culture, and the development achievements of Zhejiang so that they could sense the wonderful changes on this land. He hoped that Taiwan students could often come to Zhejiang to travel or stay here to work with the mainland youths and to pursue, build and realize their dreams. In the face of the cross-Straits relations and the current situation on the island, he also hoped that young people from both sides should grasp the general trend of history, adhere to the national interests, guard the national reunification, and bravely shoulder the heavy load of the times. By firmly following the trajectory of the peaceful development of the cross-Straits relations, the Chinese people on both sides should grasp tight the future and the destiny of the development.
In his speech at the camp close ceremony, Tao Jun briefly reviewed the contents and activities and revealed the efforts made by the Provincial Committee of the Taiwan Democratic Self-Government League and the Provincial Taiwan Community in promoting the integration and exchange of university students from both sides. He hoped that young students should uphold the idea that people on both sides of the Strait are of one family, take on their responsibilities and make a difference in promoting the integrated development of the two sides. In the historical process of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, they may achieve their self-realization in the pursuit of their life-long dreams by infusing their strength into the development and progress of the country and the nation and creating the glory of their own.
During the event, Zhejiang and Taiwan youths visited the Olympic Sports Center stadium and natatorium, the Hangzhou Asian Games Museum, Hangzhou International Expo Center (the main venue of the G20 Hangzhou Summit) to experience the light of the Hangzhou Asian Games. They also went to the training venue of the Asian Games Esports competitions where they had a Cross-Strait youth esports exhibition match. With their eyes, hands and hearts, they were immerged in the ancient and modern vibe of Zhejiang, dating back the homogenic historical and cultural inheritance. During their visit to the Hangzhou National Edition Museum, they visited the South Garden, the Jiangnan Edition Culture Exhibition, the Song Style Huzhou Mirrors Exhibition, wandering in the contemporary Song Dynasty Jiangnan style garden, listening to the stories of the ancient documents, and seeking the clue of the Chinese culture development in architectural aesthetics. They were so amazed by the long history of the Chinese culture.
In downtown Hangzhou, when they strolled on Baidi Causeway and Gongchen Bridge, they enjoyed the millennium West Lake and the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal. Walking into the Knife Scissors Sword and Umbrella Museum, they were surprised at the change of the city life. On the Pingyao Kiln Old Street, the teachers and students indulged themselves in the charm of the ancient Yuhang and its new life.
In ZJIET, the teachers and students tried out the fan-making intangible cultural heritage and the embroidery skills and were appealed by the charm of the traditional Chinese culture. In the fun sports meeting and friendship activities, all the participants cooperated to win the games and actively displayed their talents, sufficiently demonstrating the strong tie between the youths of the two sides.
It is reported that since 2019, the Provincial Taiwan Affairs Office, the Provincial Department of Education, and the Provincial Committee of the Taiwan League have jointly created a series of brand activities for the students and youths from Taiwan. Three sessions have been held so far, inviting more than 300 college students from Taiwan to participate. The Camp this time is a part of the series activities which overlaps with the annual provincial key exchange programs of our university in terms of Taiwan affairs. As the organizer, ZJIET actively invited Taiwan teachers and students from partner colleges and universities in Taiwan and Zhejiang to participate. Activities were carefully planned and prepared and were implemented with high quality and the expected results. It provides an exchange platform for the Zhejiang and Taiwan youths to further promote their friendship and cooperation.
